I don't know if anyone has encountered the reverse rotation problem of the Roots blower. Although this situation is not common, it still exists. Below, I will share the specific reasons that cause it! The equipment is equipped with two air blowers or two exhaust fans, and often the reverse rotation of other standby fans is caused by the loose inlet guide vanes.
I don't know if anyone has encountered the reverse problem of the Roots blower. Although this situation is not common, it still exists. The specific causes will be shared below! The equipment is equipped with two blowers or two exhaust fans, and often the reverse operation of other standby fans is caused by the loose inlet guide vanes.
The reverse operation of the blower is due to the rotation direction of the impeller being opposite to the direction of the rotating magnetic field of the motor. The starting current is large, and the inertia of the impeller is much greater than when it is stationary, causing the reverse current and starting time of the blower to be longer than the action current and time set for the motor's safety by the relay. Therefore, it cannot reverse the blower. To start the reversing blower, the reversing impeller must first be brought to a stop, for example, by adding a baffle at the inlet of the reversing blower or using external force to prevent the impeller from rotating, and then starting it.
When the blower is running in the forward direction, sudden reversal is not allowed. A sudden power failure of the blower or reversal caused by the pressure returning at the outlet, forward inertial rotation, and outlet reverse pressure can lead to blower reversal, resulting in damage to the blower gears, and in severe cases, it may damage the rotor or the entire blower. The blower inverter with two blades will be damaged immediately, and a three-blade Roots blower will also experience gear damage.

The Roots blower can reverse in this situation, but it will start when the blower stops. If it runs in reverse for a long time, the gap between the front and rear end faces of the blower needs to be adjusted before and after leaving the factory. A sudden power failure of the blower or reversal caused by the pressure at the outlet, forward inertial rotation, and outlet reverse pressure can damage the blower gears and couplings, and in severe cases, it can damage the rotor or the entire blower. Therefore, it is generally required to disconnect from the original pipeline before reversing, and it must be reversed only after the blower has truly stopped. The blower's power failure and tripping often damage the rotor and couplings, so a check valve should be installed in front of the blower outlet or at the blower outlet to prevent back pressure in the pipeline from affecting the blower itself.
The solution to the reverse operation of the Roots blower is to install a check valve to ensure that the check valve can be safely closed. For the Roots blower, it can reverse, but it must be started when the blower is stopped. If the machine runs in reverse for a long time, adjustments must be made before and after leaving the factory. The Roots blower often experiences breakage of the rotor and couplings due to sudden power failure of the blades. A check valve should be installed in front of the blower outlet or at the blower outlet to prevent back pressure in the pipeline from affecting the Roots blower itself.
When the phenomenon of blower reversal occurs, it is hoped that it can be resolved in a timely manner to prevent damage to the equipment over time, affecting its lifespan.
